DIAMONDS LOSE THEIR SPARKLE
CANBERRA DIAMONDS WIN ONE OF THREE AND FALL 4 POINTS SHORT OF PLAY-OFF SPOT
It was not all doom and gloom for the Diamonds, as our pitcher Jenna who had just beat NT Fury 8-1 got the ultimate surprize. Yes diamonds do sparkle and as she was coming off the diamond her boyfriend popped the Question "will you marry me" and her eyes sparkled as much as the diamond ring. I feel this is more proof that diamonds are ladies best friends. Even though we lost everyone was excited for Jenna.
Diamonds lost all chances of making the play-offs as they lost their first game to Adelaide Starz 2-0. We faced the top pitcher in the tournament Vanessa Stokes and she allowed just 3 hits, again our batting let us down. We also got very good pitching as Greta Cechetti allowed just 3 hits unfortunately they were all in the one inning giving Starz the game that guarenteed them a play-off spot.
WA Flames were like a beat up army but they kept fighting back and hung on to beat the Diamonds 6-4. Their pitcher Monica who was injured in the first game of the tournament came hobbling out in the 6th inning and pitched two good innings to snuff out any more comeback by the diamonds.
Tonight we go back to the park and will be in a playoff to see who gets 5th spot. Don't see much use of these games but thats the rules so we play the Fury again. Hopefully Clare Waricks hitting will continue as she had 4 safe hits from 4 at bats. This will sure help her retain her spot as Australian shortstop.
