Playoffs Best Ever in Women's Softball

DIAMONDS MISS OUT ON PLAYOFFSS

AFTER 18 GAMES CANBERRA DIAMOND'S MISSED FINAL SPOT IN NATIONAL WOMENS PLAY-OFF ROUND

PLAY-OFFS FINAL GAME HAILED AS MOST EXCITING EVER.

        Canberra Diamonds missed the play off round by 4 points as they managed to do most things right, but when it came to hitting the ball it seemed to mostly miss the bat. Our pitchers pitched very well and in four games we held the lead but let it slip away from us with shoddy fielding and not being able to score more runs. Back to the drawing board for next year and i did enjoy coming back to coach womens softball.

          Fox Sports picked a good game to televise and do a program on women's sport. New South Wales Firebirds and Queensland Heat who were the top two teams in the rounds met in the final, and will go down as the most exciting ever. It will be an inspiration for up and coming players to witness this excitement. 

           The Heat took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning as Stacy Weber hit a homerun over the 225 foot fence. It stayed this way until the 5th inning, and then Stacy Porter Australia,s best batter crunched one that carried well beyond the 225 foot fence.  Heat went ahead again in the bottom of the fifth inning thanks to two hits and an error. Both teams changed their pitchers and in the top of the seventh inning with one on and two out it set the stage for a finish that everyone in the park will remember. Stacy Porter stepped into the batters box and everyone in the park thought she would get an intentional walk. The coach chose to pitch to her and payed the price as she hit anoter one out of the park and the Firebirds won 3-2 and the National Women's Softball Champions.

           At the closing ceremonies and awards presentation Stacy Porter won the batting award for 6 out of the past 7 years. She also collected the Most Valuable Player award and it was well received as she got a standing ovation by all the players. Diamonds managed to collect one award as Clare Warwick was named the shortstop on the all star team.
