AUSTRALIAN MENS SOFTBALL FINALS

AFTER DAY 4 THE EXCITEMENT AND DRAMA BUILDS.

     Today is the final day of the Australian Mens Softball Championships, and if the games are even close to yesterdays results it will be an entertaining day. The big question is can any team beat Adam Folkards brillant pitching, or more to the point can any pitcher contain ACT'S powerful hitting attack.The player Andrew Kirkpatrick who has led ACT with his big bat and has 7 homeruns for this tournament.

     Queensland are the  comeback kids as they have struggled with injurys and their 3rd baseman had to fly home before their 1st playoff game to be a groom at his sisters wedding. Victoria kept their status alive as the most improved team, as they beat New South Wales 2-1 to maintain their hold on 2nd place, and get two chances in the playoffs

.Three former players from WA wondering why there team did not even make the playoffs.

      ACT went through the round undefeated in a game that saw 25 runs scored, came from being 8-0 down and won in the bottom of the 7th inning when pinch hitter Zenon Winters hit a single to right field scoring two runs. This hit finally ended the 3 hour marathon, and the game is one of the longest on record.

      Victoria with their win had the daunting task of facing Adam Folkard in their 1st playoff game. As the local team Western Australia never made the playoffs, it was thought the crowd would be way down. How wrong they were as they came to see the World's number 1 pitcher pitch.  They got there money's worth as Folkard allowed 2 hits and struck out 13 batters. Victoria scored their one run on an error. Joel Goodall also struck out 13 batters, but two homeruns in the first inning proved to be the difference.

     The last game of the night between Queensland and Victoria had the fans on the edge of there seats for the whole game. Queensland held the lead until the top of the 7th inning when New South Wales pushed across 2 runs to take a 5-4 lead. Jamie Sheenan hit a 2 run single with two out, to be the hero for the game. Queensland did not get a runner on in the bottom of the 7th,and were eliminated by 5-4.

     Today will see Victoria play New South Wales and the winner will face ACT. A big crowd is expected and i have the envious job of picking the player of the final series.

 Victoria watch as ACT hit two home runs in the first inning as they went to win the first playoff game 4-1.
